Buddhist Philosophy of Mind and Mental Healing 佛教心靈哲學與心理治療

 In 8-1 section, Prof Ju-En Chien( 簡汝恩 老師 ) will introduce the different mindfulness tradition, there are Mahasi, Goenka, Pa Auk, Thich Nhat Hanh, and Jon Kabat-Zinn.

In 8-2 section, Prof Ju-En Chien talks about the different goals of mindfulness which are traditional and Modern times. According to the Satipatthana sutta, the four foundations of mindfulness are mindfulness of Body, Feeling, Mind, and Dhammas.

In 8-3 section, Prof Ju-En Chien talks more about the Mahasi, Goenka, Pa Auk style of mindfulness. They are all Theravāda traditions but still have some differences. Mahasi emphasizes mindful observation of bodily movements, Goenka focuses on systematic body scanning, and Pa Auk values the cultivation of tranquility before engaging in insight practices. They all share a common foundation in the mindfulness practices outlined in the Satipatthana sutta, which guides practitioners in developing insight into impermanence, suffering and non-self.

In 8-4 section, Prof Ju-En Chien talks more about the difference between traditional Buddhism and modern style of mindfulness. Gethin, Dreyfus, and Ven Analayo underscore that mindfulness in its classical Buddhism form is far more than a non-judgmental awareness of the present moment.

In 8-5 section, Prof Ju-En Chien talks about Thich Nhat Hanh, and Jon Kabat-Zinn style of mindfulness. Thich Nhat Hanh introduces Tangerine Meditation. Jon Kabat-Zinn used to learn from Zen and Thich Nhat Hanh. His style is called MBSR.
